It was with great sadness that the club heard earlier today that former 1st team cricketer Daniel Woods had passed away peacefully yesterday evening after a long illness. His ever supportive & loving wife Heather and parents were in attendance at his bedside.[/b]
Everyone at Hyde CSC would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Daniel’s family, friends and teammates at this extremely sad time.
Woodsy had two spells at Werneth Low Road. Firstly from 2006 to 2008 and then again in 2015, where he was part of the Hyde team that were crowned ECB Premier League champions, when he returned to Cheshire in order to fully commit to being captain of the County side despite living and working in Yorkshire.
Daniel had spent the intervening six seasons at York CC and returned there in 2016 where he subsequently played for the next four seasons. He was an integral part of hugely successful teams at both clubs winning numerous honours on either side of the Pennines.
Daniel was a genuinely lovely bloke as well as being an incredibly talented spin bowler and was extremely popular at the club amongst the Hyde faithful. Fiercely competitive on the field he was universally liked around the leagues he played in and across the country when representing Cheshire. The tributes from across the cricketing community that have already been shared today bear testament to that.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends at Hyde CSC.
RIP Woodsy.
