Another Hyde youngster receives County recognition.

Dear Members,

I'm delighted to announce to you that our very own Kesh Fonseka has been awarded a place in the Lancashire Academy for 2021.

In fact, at 15 years, he is the youngest ever entrant, which is a great honour in itself.

Academy director, Chris Benbow, and Kesh's County Coaches Steve Titchard and Andy Kennedy, have obviously been impressed with his particular brand of exciting stroke play.
Kesh will take his place amongst older players, predominently in the 16 to 18 year age group.

Kesh is widely regarded as one of the finest prospects to have represented the club.
Still an under 15's player he has already represented the Lancashire County at various age group levels, including a particularly notable tour of India in 2018, when he rose to prominence and impressed non other than former England and Lancashire bowler Paul Allot.

Kesh started his junior development at Little Hulton CC and then moved to Clifton in the Greater Manchester League, before joining us at Hyde last season.

Kesh has close links with Dave Leighton, who has been his coach for many years.
Dave cannot speak highly enough of his protege, and long before Kesh joined us at Hyde, he had relayed stories of this prodigiously talented young man and his six hitting ability.
Dave has particularly vivid memories of a game in Taunton for Lancs Under 12s’ when Kesh smashed 160. It would seem Kesh is a player who excels at a level far beyond his tender age.

Despite Covid restrictions, and a much reduced fixture list, Kesh was able to make a significant contribution last year, and even opened the innings for our first team.
Other notable highs included centuries for the second and third teams in consecutive weeks.

Kesh is not just a batsmen of rich promise, but also a well mannered and pleasant young man.
He is a credit to his family.

Everybody at Hyde Cricket and Squash wishes him the very best and we particularly look forward to seeing him smash more of those towering sixes during the summers ahead.

Let's hope for Kesh, and all the rest of our players for that matter, we have a largely un-affected summer of cricket to look forward to...

Stay safe everybody.
